Community philanthropists continue to support local causes despite austerity and cuts in public spending
- 48 community foundations covering all parts of the UK
- £60 million distributed in grants in the last year
- £375 million in endowed funds held at October 2013
- Almost 20,000 grants made
The network has more than 15,000 donors who used our services last year.
Other surveys have shown a general slowing down in charitable giving: that people are giving less in real terms than before the recession started, and that the number of million-pound-plus donations recorded has decreased. But we can show that community philanthropists are continuing to support local causes as they weather recession austerity and cuts in public spending.
There are 3287 funds totalling £419m
Community foundations made almost 20,000 grants, the average size of which was £3,000.
Over 1,000 volunteers (trustees, panel members and many other roles) work with 420 staff to support donors and strengthen communities throughout the UK.
